Spring cocktails and afternoon tea by the sea at Hilton Brighton Metropole

City leaders enjoyed tasters and cocktails, overlooking the sea, at the launch of the spring food and cocktail menu in the freshly decorated Waterhouse Bar and Terrace at the Hilton Brighton Metropole [8 May].

New executive chef, Peter Buckingham, has joined forces with Waterhouse bar manager Nick Heasman to create some delicious new taster plates and afternoon tea menus, with tastebud-tingling cocktails (like the elderflowery ‘Hedgerow Fizz’ or gin-based ‘Blackdown Bramble’) that bring out the best of local flavours.

Howard Lewis, general manager of Hilton Brighton Metropole commented: “We have a superb new team and we aim to offer tea by the sea in style. The new menu brings some of the best local ingredients to the table, including Hailsham lamb from Ashdown Farm in East Sussex, mackerel caught off the Hove coast, and even Brighton rock crushed to enhance a spectacular crunchy cheese cake.”

Children are also well catered for, with the Metropole’s ‘Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea’ offering younger diners a three-tiered stand of ham, marmite and jam sandwiches, strawberry jam tarts topped with candy floss, mini Brighton rock and vanilla or milk froth whisked up at the bar.

Hilton Brighton Metropole is donating £1 from every afternoon tea sold to local charities Chestnut Tree House, Rockinghorse, and Whitehawk Inn.

Patients of local children’s hospital star in new film

Patients from the Alex and their families, staff from the Alex and Rockinghorse, at the Brighton Cineworld premiere.

Young patients from the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton have starred in a very special film made by staff at the hospital, in collaboration with Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. The film is aimed towards helping children prepare for blood tests and will hopefully be used by the NHS.

The premiere of the film was held on Sunday 27 April at Cineworld Brighton, and was attended by the little stars of the film and their families. On the day, the children were also treated to goody bags and a special screening of Rio2, courtesy of Cineworld.

Dan, general manager of Cineworld Brighton, said of the event: “It has been an absolute pleasure hosting Rockinghorse and the Alex at this film premiere event, and we look forward to helping them again in the future.”
Kate, one of the filmmakers, commented: “We know that having a blood test can be a nerve-wracking experience for many young people. We wanted to make a short film that would help lessen this anxiety. Max, a 10 year old, shares the experience of having his blood test, and ‘Benny the Bear’ speaks to the younger children. The premiere was great fun, and big thanks to Rockinghorse and all the film’s participants.”

The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital will use the dvd throughout the hospital.
