Brighton students win enterprise award

A group of sixth form students at the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) have picked up a prize for enterprise.

They won recognition for coming up with the Best Product at the Young Enterprise Awards – and were runners up in the Best Business Performance category.

At the awards ceremony they were represented by Connor Daly, Alexander Van Oers and Kynan Kelly.

BACA said: “The group developed VPODS, a growing business that’s an outstanding learning resource for students.

“VPODS provides videos and podcasts as a fun way of helping students improve their subject knowledge and media awareness.

“The team prevailed against competition from a number of schools in the Brighton and Hove area, becoming the first state school to be engraved on the cup.

“Throughout the development of VPODS, all of the students involved have shown remarkable dedication, determination and creativity in securing funding and building the business.

“Having now received prestigious recognition for their efforts, the team are focusing on developing the system further and formulating a sustainable business strategy, through recruiting a team of students in Years 7 to 9.”

Claire Webster, who teaches ICT at BACA, said: “This represents a fantastic achievement for the entire VPODS team.

“Connor, Alexander and Kynan have shown superb leadership and communication skills throughout the project and the dedication of the team has been outstanding.”
