Twisted Angels
This evening dedicated to Brazilian poetry and prose was extremely insightful and thought provoking. Angelica Freitas, through discussions with her translator Hilary Kaplan and Daniel Hahn (translator of Brazilian novel Nowhere People), explored how translations can enrich everyone. She spoke with passion of her work and how honest she was with her word power.
It would have been perfect, though, if less emphasis had been placed on how translation can be difficult and more on the process behind it. But overall Twisted Angels was an intelligently constructed event, with a nice balance of seriousness and gentle comedy.
