Celebcity: Footie ace Gary Lineker, Circus Street Brighton, Republica at Brighton Pride & Steve Coogan
Snack of the net
Match of the Day pundit and England and Spurs footie ace Gary Lineker, was seen on Ship Street in the city filming the latest advert for his money-spinning Walkers crisps contract. The perma-tanned ex-striker will no doubt be packing plenty of his favourite savoury snacks when he heads off to Brazil for this year’s World Cup.
Republica at Brighton Pride
With just 10 weeks to go until the biggest day in the city’s calendar, we are excited to hear news that Republica, one of the most iconic 90s female-fronted rock bands, will be playing the festival’s brand-new Q Live Music Stage. Republica front-woman Saffron Sprackling, says:
“I’m so excited to play Brighton Pride this year as the gay and lesbian community have always been such great supporters of our music. I’m proud to say one of our songs, Drop Dead Gorgeous, has been described as a gay anthem, with many gay couples telling me over the years it means a lot to them. Pride is a brilliant celebration for everybody to be proud of who they are, their sexuality and beliefs. We have loved headlining at Summer Rites and G.A.Y. in London, so to be playing Brighton Pride in my hometown feels like coming home.” As well as selling millions of albums worldwide, Republica’s Saffron has been in demand as a vocalist, collaborating with The Prodigy, The Cure, Junkie XL, Gary Numan, Jeff Beck, Jah Wobble, N-Joi, Mark Moore, St Etienne and The Shamen. Get your tickets before the end of May for just £15 from www.brighton-pride.org

Famous artists taking part include RYCA, Pure Evil, Zeus, David Walker, Copyright, Carne Griffiths, Hutch, Cassette Lord, Jimi Crayon, Gemma Compton and Dylan Floyd. artrepublic owner Lawrence Alkin, who is sponsoring the street art festival, says: ‘Street art has become highly collectable in recent years, with artists making headline news for their wonderful creations. Urban ArtFest represents a fantastic and rare opportunity to meet these highly skilled artists and see their work created up close. I am delighted that artrepublic AND ink_d, as leading galleries representing this art form, are working with Brighton Fringe to create a fun-packed day for everyone.’ To tie in with this extravaganza of urban art, ink_d gallery on North Road are holding a street art show called Snapshot: The Next Generation of Street Artists, running until June 1.
COOGAN Crush
We aren’t ashamed to say that at JBPR, we have a rather significant crush on the comedy genius that is Steve Coogan. So it was with great joy that we spotted the star of The Italian Trip in the Rottingdean branch of Tesco. Is it just us or is that man getting better with age? He was looking a-mazing and we have to report he has very, very nice legs – or as we are calling them in the office, his fabulous ‘Pauline Calves’.
Urban ArtFest, Sat 31st May, 1pm-5pm, Circus Street, Brighton, BN2 9QF.
