I Believe in Unicorns

This one-woman show, based on Michael Morpurgo’s book, played to a packed house of families. I was accompanied by a reluctant seven year old who did not want to be bored, and five minutes in he said with awe, ‘I love it mum.’ We were told stories within stories on themes of loving and hating books and reading. A boy and a dad preferred the mountains, but they both got fished-in. A terrible thing happens and at the most painful point a wonder-tale was told, the perfect salve to sooth the pain. The set was utterly enchanting, whole landscapes were created with piles of books and inventive projections that had the children gasping and calling out their appreciation. I was sitting high up at the back of the theatre and Danyah Miller was able to reach right up and create an intimate atmosphere with her friendly, imaginative story-spinning. The audience loved it and so will you.
