Lynn Barber
The ‘Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ left her hatchet at home and was anything but ferocious on Saturday evening. Delivering the annual New Writing South lecture, this grande dame of journalists known for her incisive interviews of celebrities was warm, approachable, honest and funny.
Barber is a woman at the top of her game, dedicated to the established ethics of responsible journalism. More than once she stated that her duty was to readers, and her aim was to write entertaining and interesting pieces. True to form, an hour with Barber was great entertainment and full of fascinating insights into modern media and celebrity.
