Opening Night

What a delight to see, on the final night, a work that was so exquisitely entertaining. Les Slovaks’ extraordinary dance work with live music was packed with poetry, the five dancers of various shapes and sizes clearly enjoying what they do and sharing that joy with the audience. Not short on skills, they also made the most of comedy, never missing an opportunity to raise a smile. From elegant to jerky, from broad strokes to the tiniest of twitches in a facial expression, they kept us enthralled. Clearly friends, the piece felt like a celebration of growing friendship, of trust and intimacy. It had a delightful innocence, too, like a danced version of Blue Remembered Hills – and it created a lasting impression that will remain with me for some time. A much needed light finale to an exceptional festival.
