Peter James
Opening the Brighton Crime Festival, Dark and Stormy, Peter James’ conversation with Peter Guttridge got off to a slow start with a rambling account of his work with the Fire Service – more public safety information than literary discussion. Things quickly got into their stride, though. James certainly knows how to work an audience, with hints of revelations to come in the next Roy Grace novel and confirmation that a deal has finally been struck to bring Roy Grace to our TV screens in the not-too-distant future. The Q&A was responsible for the most interesting part of the event, prompted by a question on how those with mental health problems are frequently treated negatively by the crime writing fraternity. A curate’s egg of an evening.
