Boy faces court charged with racist attack on security guard in Hove

A teenage boy is to appear in court charged with a racist attack on a security guard in a Hove supermarket.

The 16-year-old boy, from Kemp Town in Brighton, has been charged with racially aggravated common assault, common assault and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour

He was arrested after the security guard at the West Hove branch of Sainsbury’s, in Old Shoreham Road, Hove, tried to stop a group of youths he suspected were shoplifting.

Sussex Police said that the security guard was punched and spat at during the incident.

The boy, who has not been named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody to appear at Brighton Youth Court on Tuesday 1 July.
