Unison holds living wage seminar at Brighton conference

The trade union Unison is to hold a seminar on the living wage during its national conference in Brighton.

The seminar will hear about the progress made by the Brighton and Hove Living Wage Campaign.

Those taking part will look at ways to encourage more employers to sign up – and how to replicate the campaign in other towns and cities.

The speakers include Tracey Allen, of SEA PR, who has managed the campaign in Brighton and Hove.

The seminar is being held at Brighton Town Hall on Tuesday lunchtime (17 June).

Unison’s national conference started yesterday (Saturday 14 June).

Unison has supported the Brighton and Hove Living Wage campaign since last year, joining the campaign through the Brighton Chamber of Commerce.

Alex Knutsen, the secretary of the local Unison branch, said: “It is a very important issue as Brighton and Hove is a high-cost city to live in and the living wage makes a real difference to local families in a low income bracket.”

Tracey Allen said: “The Brighton Chamber are delighted to have this opportunity to promote the great work that has been done in Brighton and Hove and the awareness that the Chamber of Commerce campaign has given both locally and nationally.

“If we can continue to drive this message around the country then that has to be a good thing especially for the low paid.”
