Whitehawk footballer convicted of match-fixing charge by jury

Former Whitehawk footballer Michael Boateng has been convicted match-fixing at the end of a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

And two men from Singapore – Krishna Ganeshan and Chann Sankaran – have also been found guilty of conspiring to commit bribery.

But a jury has cleared another former Whitehawk player Hakeem Adelakun of being part of the plot.

Boateng, 22, of Davidson Road, Croydon, and Adelakun, 23, of Mayfield Crescent, Thornton Heath, also in south London, were sacked by the East Brighton club after being arrested and charged last year.

The jury was discharged after being unable to reach a verdict on a third former Whitehawk footballer, Moses Swaibu, 25, of Tooley Street, Bermondsey. He was bailed and faces a retrial.

Ganeshan, 44, of Hougang Avenue, Hougang, Singapore, and Sankaran, 33, of Hawthorn Road, Hastings, were convicted of trying to fix the result of League Two and Conference South football matches.

The pair will be sentenced on Friday (20 June) along with Boateng.
