Celebcity: Brighton Pride line-up, The Acid Cup and Richard Hadfield from Britian’s Got Talent
Pride & Joy
It’s been a big week for Brighton Pride as they announced two huge acts for this year’s main stage at Preston Park. Lovers of The X Factor will be cock-a-hoop as latest winner Sam Bailey will be bringing her talents to the city. It’s been an incredible year for Sam; not only did she storm to victory in the ITV show, she also scored a number one single and a number one album PLUS she announced that she is pregnant with her third child!
The former prison officer, who now counts Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne and Michael Bolton amongst her biggest fans, will be bringing her formidable, spine-tingling vocals to the country’s biggest and best LGBT festival when she performs on Saturday, 2 August. Sam, who revealed on Heart FM last week that Brighton was one of her favourite cities on The X Factor national tour, comments: “I’m so excited to be playing at Brighton Pride, it’s a great event
and for a great cause. I can’t wait.”
Garage and RnB fans take note: also added to the Freedom to Live Pride line-up is chart-topping festival star Katy B. Katy scored a number one album herself this year with her second release, Little Red, the follow up to her Mercury Prize-nominated first album On a Mission.
Sam and Katy join Blue, Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt, original Weather Girl Martha Wash, Republica and Neon Jungle at the event in Preston Park, Brighton.

Portslade’s got talent
Portslade caught the nation’s attention last week as one of its residents, Richard Hadfield, a former busker and labourer led his band to become the winner of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent final. The group of five, Richard Hadfield and Matt Pagan, Michael Auger, Thomas Redgrave and Jamie Lambert – all in their early 20s – formed a month before their first audition for the show. Performing under the name Collabro, the group have claimed £250,000 and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance as their prize. Richard is quoted as saying he’ll be paying off his mum’s mortgage with his share of the BGT’s winnings. Bless him.
Acid cup
Ink_d gallery in Brighton have received a very exclusive limited edition of 14 statues by artist Ryan Callanan. Called Acid Cup, the sculptures are a take on the FIFA World Cup Trophy with an acid smiley twist. The edition, which was released last week, sold out immediately. For those of you with a richer taste in art, a very limited number of gold leaf Acid Cup statues are now available from the gallery. Our favourite DJ, Norman Cook, who has decamped to Brazil for the World Cup (well Copacabana does just slightly edge it over Portslade beach) is perhaps unsurprisingly a fan of the Acid Cup and has been using it in the promotion of his Brazil-inspired album Bem Brasil. To get your hands on the cup, visit the gallery’s website for more details: www.ink-d.co.uk.
