Hollingdean holds Lucky Dip summer fayre on Saturday

The Dip in Hollingdean becomes the Lucky Dip tomorrow (Saturday 21 June) when the road will be closed for five hours for a midsummer fayre.

Hay bales and astroturf will help transform this usually busy street into a village green. Buses are being diverted along Hollingdean Terrace.

The event starts at 10am and ends at 3pm and features market stalls selling produce, cream teas, plants, crafts, bric-a-brac and more.

Activities include soap making for children, games and the “longest” competitions, eg, longest skipping session, to celebrate the longest day of the year.

Covers band the Likely Dads will provide the music along with the Front Room Folk and Rae the Crooner who promises the smooth sounds of the 1970s and ’80s.

Children from the Hertford Junior School samba band will be playing and some of the school’s pupils will be dancing round a maypole.
There will also be a bake-off judge by the Women’s Institute.

It is the fourth Lucky Dip event – and the second involving the closure of the road. The closure will be in force from 9.45am until 3.15pm.
