Brighton and Albion shortlisted to host Spurs home games

Brighton and Hove Albion may host Tottenham Hotspur’s home games in 2016-17, according to a report in the Evening Standard newspaper.

The American Express Community Stadium in Falmer is on a shortlist that includes Wembley, the north London club’s preferred option.

Cost may prove decisive as Spurs also contemplate the Olympic Stadium, the Portman Road home of Ipswich Town and stadiummk, the home of the Milton Keynes Dons.

One possibility is that the club could use more than one “home” ground.

Spurs plan to build a new 56,000-seat stadium close to White Hart Lane but look likely to have to leave their current home a year before the £400 million new stadium is ready.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber joined from Spurs and is familiar with the challenges facing his former club.

The new stadium is part of a huge sport-led regeneration known as the Northumberland Development Project.

Spurs hope to start the 2017-18 season in their new stadium.
