Macmillan Showcase Young Local Talent

There will be a fun auction of children’s artwork in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at Leaders’ Central Brighton branch on Western Road, on Friday 18 July.

As part of its popular annual art competition, Leaders recently invited school children to ‘create a masterpiece for Macmillan’ – a picture of anything, in any medium, with the aim of it being good enough to auction. The best entries will be on display at Leaders for members of the public to enjoy and to be sold in the auction.

In addition to the art exhibition and auction, Leaders will provide refreshments and there will be a chance to win some great prizes in a raffle and fun competition, with all proceeds going directly to Macmillan.

Leaders’ Brighton and Hove senior branch manager, David Thorne, said: “We have a fantastic selection of pictures to auction from some extremely talented local children and look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to our event. Who knows, this could be an opportunity to acquire a piece of original artwork by a promising young artist who may go on to achieve great things in the future – and all for a great cause!”

Macmillan provide practical, medical and financial help to the thousands of people in the UK who get diagnosed with cancer each year. Every day, 21 people in Sussex hear the devastating news they have cancer, and 11 people die from the illness. Soberingly, by 2030 the number of people living with and beyond cancer in Sussex will fill Brighton and Hove Albion’s football stadium nearly four and a half times.

Macmillan needs to raise £3.7million to fund the Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in Brighton. Set to open in the summer/autumn of 2014, it will provide vital support to the ever-increasing number of people living with and beyond cancer in Sussex.
