Brighton ease past Lewes in pre-season friendly

Brighton and Hove Albion visited Lewes in a pre-season friendly that proved to be a comprehensive victory for the Seagulls. Sami Hyypia was able to watch his side win 5-0 in his first game charge.

Inigo Calderon opened the scoring in the first half with a measured strike from a Kemy Agustien corner.  That was followed by a great strike from Kazenga Lua Lua. After the break, goals from Craig Mackail Smith, and a brace for Shamir Goodwin rounded off a comfortable afternoon for the Albion.

Hyypia was pleased the two sides were able to provide such a spectacle. He said: “As a first game it was very good and we scored a few goals.

It’s great to come here, locally, it’s not too far away and great to see that many people had the interest to come here and see the game.”

Lewes’ Assistant Manager Danny Bloor was disappointed not to have given Brighton a more competitive game but understands the fixture means a lot to the town of Lewes.

He stated: “Fantastic day for Lewes Football Club, obviously we’d like to have beaten Brighton but that wasn’t to be.

Disappointing on the score, but we wish Brighton and Hove Albion all the best for next season and we hope to have a good season ourselves too.”

With the transfer window open, time is obviously ticking to get players in before the start of the season, but Hyypia wasn’t giving too much away.

“We are looking for additions and the sooner the better. We have to work as hard as possible to get them in.”
