Brighton and Hove’s child protection board looks to recruit lay members

The organisation responsible for co-ordinating child protection across Brighton and Hove is looking for lay members to strengthen its board.

The aim is for members of the public to bring an extra level of scrutiny to the Brighton and Hove Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).

Other members of the board are from statutory agencies, such as Brighton and Hove City Council, Sussex Police and the NHS, and from voluntary organisations.

The board’s main role is to co-ordinate child protection work locally and to monitor the effectiveness of the arrangements.

The board said: “We are currently recruiting for some new lay members – members of the public to sit on the board.

“This allows the LSCB arrangements to be opened up to further public scrutiny, with an aim of supporting stronger public engagement in, and understanding of, children’s safety issues.

“It is also motivated by awareness that sometimes local representatives can add a great deal of value to otherwise exclusively professional discussions, helping everyone to stay in touch with local realities, and the issues of concern in our communities.
