Caroline Lucas signs book deal

Caroline Lucas has signed a book deal with the publisher Portobello Books which will print her take on Parliament in time for the general election next year.

The publisher, which merged with Granta eight years ago, said yesterday (Tuesday 15 July): “We’re delighted to announce that we’ve acquired No Honourable Friends: Parliament and the Fight for Change by Caroline Lucas, Britain’s first Green MP.”

The book trade magazine The Bookseller reported the news on its website yesterday. It said: “The book will be part diary, part scathing analysis of the failure of the parliamentary system.”

It said that Max Porter, senior editor at Portobello, had bought the world English rights to the book from the Brighton Pavilion MP’s literary agent Bill Hamilton, of AM Heath.

The Bookseller quotes Mr Porter as saying: “Caroline Lucas is a radical, inspiring and trustworthy politician of singular energy and integrity.

“No Honourable Friends will combine insights into the working life an MP with a much-needed critique of the way we are governed.

“Free from the finger-pointing polemics and rampant hypocrisy of most political books, Caroline’s book will be required reading for anybody interested in how the country works, and how it might work better.”
