Peacehaven man fined for shouting racist abuse at Brighton takeaway worker

A man from Peacehaven has been fined for shouting racist abuse at a member of staff in a Brighton branch of Subway.

Adam Main, 31, also stole a drink and damaged a chair, floor tiles and a door frame in the Old Steine branch of the takeaway chain.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court e pleaded guilty to causing Hassan Khan harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour.

The court said that it found that the offence was racially aggravated.

He also admitted the theft and criminal damage.

He was given a 12-month community order, fined £55 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and £85 towards the prosecution costs.

The conditions of the community order mean that Main will be subject to an 8pm to 8am curfew which includes his front and back garden from Wednesday 2 July to Tuesday 22 July inclusive.

He will also have to have alcohol treatment and must attend meetings as directed by his supervising officer for 12 months.
