Firefighters cut woman free after crash on A27 Brighton bypass at Falmer

Firefighters cut a woman free from the wreckage of her car after another vehicle smashed into it on the A27 Brighton bypass at Falmer.

The accident happened at about 9.30pm last night (Friday 19 July)when a car travelling eastbound – towards Lewes – ended up on other side of the road.

The car hit a Honda 4×4 coming the other way, trapping the woman driving it and causing suspected back and neck injuries.

The driver of the other car suffered only minor injuries as did the passenger in the Honda.

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service treated the woman at the scene before taking her to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Preston Circus and Roedean in Brighton and from Hove.

Sussex Police closed the road for about two hours while the emergency services worked at the scene.

A lorry overturned on the same stretch of road the day before.
