Glory Glory Pride Festival – HIV Fundraiser

Glory Glory have been putting on fantastic all day parties for Brighton Pride for 4 years now. They started at Brighton Rocks Pride Festival in 2011 and built it up to great success, so for 2014 they have upped the ante, upped sticks, and relocated to the Concorde2 to put on a great big cracking rave. They have 3 arenas of different music to cater for lovers of house music of all flavours. The venue is creating a special outside area for vocal/groovy house, the bar area will provide eclectic grooves with tougher house sounds in the main room. Putting something back into Brighton, this great annual party is raising money for HIV charities Sussex Beacon, Brighton Oasis and the Pride Rainbow Fund.

DJ Biogs…

The Headline DJ this year is the World Famous Superstar Darren Emerson, of Underworld fame. In 1990, Darren joined techno band Underworld. In 1996 they released the single “Born Slippy”, which was an instant hit following its inclusion on the soundtrack to the movie, Trainspotting. During his time with Underworld, Darren also founded his record label, “Underwater” in 1994. Darren parted ways with Underworld in 2000 and concentrated more on his solo career as a DJ and remixer, and also a label owner. In 2009 he released a third compilation for Global Underground – ‘Bogota’ and in 2010 he launched a new label, DETONE, on which he has so far released the club tracks Gracelands, Decisions, Hard For Slow and Au Go Go, featuring the vocals of the lead singer from Empire of the Sun. Meanwhile, he continues his relentless globe trotting DJ schedule and in the past year, Darren has also begun hosting DETONE club nights at East Village in London.

Brighton’s very own Freemasons top the bill outside the venue in the area underneath the arches at the front of the club. The Grammy nominated act with 5 UK top 20 hits under their belt played an enormously successful set at last year’s party and has been rebooked due to popular demand from Glory Glory regulars. DJ Russell Small and Producer Jimmy Wiltshire are regular guests at Pride parties worldwide and have a huge following that are drawn to their huge vocal house anthems and huge basslines. Not to be missed.

Space Ibiza DJ Mat Playford drops his debut album ‘Too Big To Fail’ on Black Rock Records this July. Mat has been creating and producing music for over 20 years, working with a multitude of artists from Woolford to Rivera. ‘Too Big To Fail’ is a straightforward exemplification of Mat’s eclectic musical influences peppered with hints of UK rave scene influences like proto-jungle, ambient house and trip-hop. The album was put together in Playford’s production studio using his vast, obsessive collection of analogue keyboards and can be best described as a multidimensional pallet of sound that dances round genres, each offering as different as the next. The eleven-track offering never deviates from the resolute warmth and depth that Mat stamps on all his work and is a tried-and-true testament to his abilities in the studio. Mat Playford ‘Too Big To Fail’ LP is out on Black Rock on 6th July.

The term legend is often bandied about far too easily, but in this case it is entirely accurate! Justin Robertson is a producer and DJ who brings with him a rich history as one of the creators of the Electronic Music scene, as well as a restless need to push forward and innovate, making him one of the most relevant DJs around. Justin’s latest incarnation as The Deadstock 33s has been garnishing lavish praise from established figures such as Andrew Weatherall and Erol Alkan, as well as a diverse cross section of fresh talent from Daniel Avery [with whom he has a long standing production partnership] to Eats Everything. Justin also found time to produce the achingly beautiful ”Yes It Is” with Tim Burgess, record reggae in Jamaica with Ernest Ranglin and Nadine Sutherland, front the art rock combo Thee Earls, write songs for two Fatboy Slim albums and run his own Neverwork label releasing several singles that found favour with everyone from Ellen Alien to Paul Woolford, all before embarking on the latest sonic adventure that was to be The Deadstock 33s.
