Sussex Business Awards
The 26th Sussex Business Awards are now ‘open for business’ following a series of launches in Brighton, Crawley and Uckfield.
Attendees heard previous winners discuss what winning an award has meant for them, as well as judges highlighting what they look for in entries. Three new sponsors and a new chair of the judges were
also announced.
Taking over the Chair from Peter Field, the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, will be Mike Herd, Executive Director of Sussex Innovation Centre and the Sussex Businessperson of the year 2000. Mike was also the winner last year of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion.
Awards organiser Caroline Brown commented: “Peter has been a brilliant ambassador for the awards and we are really grateful for everything he has done for us over the years. We are delighted to welcome Mike as our new chair.
“Mike has experienced these awards from finalist, to winner, to sponsor. Having spent around 16 years helping all sorts of businesses to grow, we are confident he is going to make a brilliant chair.”
Mayo Wynne Baxter joined the team of sponsors, which include Morgan Sindall, Domestic & General, Mazars, Legal & General, Sussex Innovation Centre, HSBC, Checkaprofessional, Sussex Enterprise, Heart FM, Sussex Business Times and Absolute Brighton. Mayo Wynne Baxter will be sponsoring the Most Promising New Business.
Sussex Downs College are sponsoring a brand new award for the Young Sussex Businessperson Of The Year, and Wealden District Council will be sponsoring the award for the Most Sustainable Business.
Celebrating business excellence across Sussex, the awards are the longest established scheme of its kind in the county, and it’s also the one that everyone wants to win!
Applicants have until 29 August 2014 to prepare their submissions.
The winners will be announced at The Grand Brighton on 10 December.
Trevor Sorbie’s Summer
Client Evening
The Trevor Sorbie Salon on Nile Street held a summer client evening last week in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, an organisation they work closely with via Trevor Sorbie’s own charity My New Hair. A glamorous crowd enjoyed Pimm’s cocktails, sushi from Moshimo, cupcakes from Cloud 9, a Shu Uemura lash bar and complimentary manicures by the salon’s new beauty therapist, Kim. Trevor and his wife Carole were in attendance to support the event, alongside Macmillan representatives Sarah Coxhill and Geoff Brown.
Charity Fashion show
A special fashion show took place on Sunday 22 June to raise money for charity.
The show was in aid of the late Simon Seivewright, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour. Show organiser Atosa Nikkhah said: “It was only right we showcased our graduate collections to try to raise some money for our chosen charities.
“Last year our much-loved tutor Simon Seivewright lost his battle with a brain tumour, so to celebrate his life and raise money for the charity created in his honour, The Brain Tumour Charity, we hosted a charity fashion show at the Phoenix Art Gallery in Brighton.
It was also in aid of The Martlets Hospice and raised just over £1,000.
