Behind the scenes of Latest TV with Richard Shayler
Driving is fun, but what’s better? Sailing! Yeah, that’s awesome too but what’s better than that? Flying! And what beats flying? Dancing! And what trumps every one of these activities? Being able to film them for Latest TV, of course!
Guy Lloyd has been an intrepid sailor for a long time now. When he’s not sailing the airwaves at Juice FM or meandering the film reels of Latest TV, you can actually find him out at sea. Admittedly he’s normally found circuiting the little plastic slide at the back of the boat, but he is still a fearless young buck who’ll slide down that thing in any conditions, without a t-shirt on, for at least five slides in a row. So, when asked if he wanted to abseil down The Grand, he jumped at the chance.
He did wonder momentarily where they would get the water, but he thought that was neither here nor there. When he arrived, he was so excited he put his best outfit on, which was naturally a Spiderman costume. And much like a boat whose hull has been penetrated, the facts started to sink in. He wasn’t ‘sailing’ down The Grand … he was ABSEILING down it. Guy may be a fearless sailor, but he is actually akin to a baby when it comes to heights. Boo-hoo. But hooray! He did it! Gwarr! Blow the man down! Get that man a grog! And it was all for the sake of the Action For Children Charity, shiver me timbers! I hope they raised a few bob.
The sports team were also raising quite a few things this week. Mostly my eyebrows, at just how incredibly good looking they are getting. Beach bods and all. But, I digress. They were in fact raising … themselves! Off the ground! In a helicopter!
Tulleys Farm in Crawley have got themselves a new maze, and the sports team just had to get an aerial view of the massive series of infuriating, and often scary, hedgerows. So if anyone needs to know the way out, these guys should be the blokes to contact. Oh actually, sorry everyone, I’ve just spoken to them and they all said that their eyes were closed throughout the entire journey. It’s funny – Guy said the same thing about his experience.
In contrast, Lynn Ruth Miller had an eye-opening experience this week, dancing the Charleston with fifty other people in Pavilion Gardens. We went down to meet Elena Collins and Fiona Ring, who head up the Dance Brighton and Hove group. Their aim for the day was to make a film promoting local dance and arts groups in the city. Lynn, being eighty years old, took to it like a duck to water – and much like a duck in water, was flapping around all over the place! A great idea, great fun, and for a great cause.
