Hove charity shop could be forced to close after being flooded by storms
It was an ordinary day for those working in this Hove charity shop.
But little did they know that when a month’s worth of rain fell in just an hour, thousands of pounds of stock would be destroyed.
The damage caused to the Chestnut Tree Hospice store in Hove by Monday’s storm means the future of the shop itself is at risk.
The destruction was caused by a flat roof above the shop, which suffered from crushing volumes of water.
Water leaked through the ceiling, damaging lighting and fittings, and left inches of rainwater on the shop floor.
The shop was flooded, with ceiling tiles on the floor and over five thousand pounds worth of stock was damaged.
Volunteers and staff have been busy trying to protect the remainder of the stock – but they need more help.
