Celebcity: Carne Griffiths’ solo show
Carne Griffiths’ solo show, Adele in Ibiza, Eastbourne Pier up in flames & Michael Fish
Escapist art
Hot off the press for all you art lovers out there – the amazingly talented Carne Griffiths has just announced he will be doing a solo show at Ink_d opening on 6 September, so there’s plenty
of time to put it in your diary.
Carne, now based in East Sussex, works primarily with calligraphy inks, graphite and unusual liquids such as tea, brandy and vodka. His fascination with drawing focuses on the manipulation of the drawn line and he explores human, geometric and floral forms in both literal and abstract translation. Images are recorded in a ‘dreamlike’ sense, and his work creates a journey of escapism which focuses on scenes of awe and wonder.
Originally from Liverpool, Carne graduated from the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Maidstone in 1995. After completing a one-year KIAD fellowship and moving to London, he served an apprenticeship at the longest established gold wire embroidery firm in the world, eventually becoming the creative director after 12 hard-working years. Carne produced intricate designs that were used for the uniforms in the films Valkyrie and The Last King Of Scotland, and his ‘Red Death Coat’ was used in The Phantom Of The Opera. His floral designs for Asprey were included in their first ever catwalk collection.
Since establishing his own studio in 2010, Carne has exhibited in the UK at the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy, the London Art Fair, and overseas with solo exhibitions in Milan and Hong Kong in 2013, in Ibiza in 2011 and New Orleans in 2010. He also collaborated with British photographer Rankin for a feature in the second edition of Hunger Magazine, in 2012.
Not a show to miss!

Multi-million selling, Brit, Oscar and Grammy award-winning artist Adele is reportedly on a well-earned holiday in Ibiza. The singer has chosen a lovely six-bedroom villa on the party island, which importantly has the added benefit of affording Adele and her family lots of privacy.
The singer recently brought a privacy case against a photo agency for publishing images of her son, Angelo. Last week, lawyers acting for the ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer and her husband, Simon Konecki, settled the privacy case in the High Court in London for an undisclosed five-figure sum.
The agency had taken (and made available for publication) images of the singer and her son in June and November of 2013. Her lawyer told the court the singer was emphatic that her son was not, and must never, be public property. Quite right..!
Up in Flames
We are mourning the devastating loss of the beautiful Eastbourne Pier.
The shocking scenes of the wonderful 144-year-old, Grade II* listed landmark going up in flames will have brought a tear to the eyes of many residents and visitors. Thankfully, no one was injured and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
The fire was battled by crews from the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service together with RNLI lifeboat crews who, despite a tremendously difficult task, managed to save two thirds of the beloved pier.
No smoke without fire
We’ll give the last word to weather presenter Michael Fish, who was born in Eastbourne, and who tweeted: “Devastated. My childhood up in smoke. Eastbourne’s pier must be rebuilt. It was the most attractive in the country.”
Hear hear, Michael.
