PRIDE IN BRIGHTON
Every colour in the rainbow was on display in Brighton and Hove this weekend as tens of thousands of people enjoyed the Pride celebrations.

With throngs lining the streets on Saturday morning and hordes packing Preston Park in the afternoon, the celebration of LGBT culture was hailed by some as the best yet.

Even feared issues with the ticketing of the St James’s street party seemed to pass without any major issues.

WE WILL REMEMBER
Communities across Brighton and Hove bowed their heads to mark the centenary of the start of World War One.

Remembering World War 1

A series of open-air ceremonies were held this weekend as the city remembered how the conflict had
a profound affect on people’s lives.

It culminated in a wreath-laying service at the Royal Sussex Regiment War Memorial in Regency Square yesterday (August 4) – the date Britain entered the conflict.

STATUE FOR OUR HENRY
Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby is leading calls for a statue to commemorate Brighton’s Great War veteran Henry Allingham.

The Conservative politician believes the move to mark Britain’s oldest World War veteran would be a tribute to all those who fought in the conflict.

The Brighton Kemptown MP has written to Defence Secretary, Michael Fallon MP, asking him to consider publicly funding a statue for the late Ovingdean resident.

The 41-year-old is said to have wanted to become an actress before changing direction and starting her own upholstery company.

It may seem like just an ordinary house. But for those women living in Stopover, it is a chance to escape issues such as homelessness, domestic violence and substance abuse.

As Brighton-based charity Impact Initiatives launched its third house in the city to support vulnerable young women, we spoke to some of those providing the help.

Like it or not, we live in a university city.

We’ve all, in our time, advised football referees to get their eyes tested.

But Lewes FC went a bit further by heading to Specsavers in the search for a sponsor for their new shirts.

The announcement that the high street store would continue its funding deal into the 2014/15 season was made as the non-league club unveiled its new strip for the coming year.

Club representatives said it was the biggest deal in the club’s 129-year history.
