Hundreds of acres of Sussex Downland opened up to public
The South Downs is a place where anyone of any age can come and get away from it all.
And now, thanks to the efforts of Brighton and Hove City Council, there is more of it available for the public to enjoy.
The local authority has opened up 282 hectares or 670 acres as Open Access land meaning walkers can now roam freely instead of being restricted to footpaths.
The new area, roughly ten times the size of Brighton’s Preston Park, adjoins existing Open Access land the council created in and around Stanmer Park in 2006.
