Film: The Unbeatables (3D)
Thought football season was over? Think again, with this underdog-championing animation from Argentina
With a cracking British voice cast, as well as covering one of the country’s favourite sports, and being released as an animation over the long holidays, The Unbeatables (also known as Underdogs) looks like a delightful little sleeper hit set to attract all comers this summer.
The story follows the adventures of a young boy, Amadeo (voiced by Rupert Grint), who is a champion table football player in his small town. Before long though, Amadeo is challenged to a real-life match by his old rival and professional footballer with bad intentions called – get this – Grosso. Brushing aside how a young boy could be a long-time rival with a pro footballer and what that says about the footballers’ priorities, it is apparent that the fate of the town hangs on the result of this football match. Good thing his table football players are magical, and decide to leap into action and help him out. But will it be enough?
From the Oscar-winning director Juan José Campanella (The Secret In Their Eyes), and also featuring the talents of Peter Serafinowicz, Anthony Head, Rob Brydon, Ralf Little and Alistair McGowan, The Unbeatables promises to be a cut above other family film fare this balmy summer. Well worth a trip to air conditioned entertainment.
