Green monster takes over a Brighton park’s pond
Park volunteers have been faced with the ultimate algae-rhythm after green weeds took over a pond.
For nearly 200 years Brighton’s Queens Park has been a place of serenity and calm in a sea of busyness.
But this year’s warm weather has seen algae blossom meaning the once clear pond has been taken over by weeds.
Volunteers have been battling to try to clear the pond but say there are simply not enough of them.
There are fears it will now impact on the local bird population which like to sit in the water during the summer months.
With conservation experts describing it as the most they have ever seen, those responsible have said they will look into what can be done.
