Latest People: Churchill Square’s Big Summer Read and The Prince’s Trust Awards Presentation
Churchill Square’s Big Summer Read
Churchill Square has an impressive list of authors confirmed for their Big Summer Read, which started on Friday 8 August. The visiting authors will be taking part in a whole host of readings, book signings and special events, all of which are free and drop-in.
Kicking things off was CBeebies star Sid Sloane, reading three of his favourite books. The extended line-up will include Brighton’s own Emily Gravett, Chris Bradford, mother and daughter duo AJ Foxx (joined by Mr Hendrix the Pomeranian puppy – the real-life inspiration for the
stories), Joanna Simmons, Abie Longstaff, Eastbourne author Jenny McLachlan, and Brighton-based best-selling illustrator Sue Hendra.
With storytelling sessions, reading workshops, early years specialists on hand with help and advice on getting started, storytelling treasure hunts, games, story-writing events, a book exchange and library corner, The Big Summer Read is designed to inspire people of all ages to get reading.
Tina Dallorzo, Centre Director for Churchill Square, said: “We’re celebrating all things related to books. Whether you’re young or old, there is something here for all ages – a host of great events planned to inspire the people of Brighton and beyond to get reading!”
The 2014 Big Summer Read extravaganza is a free two weeks of summer holiday fun, devoted to all things related to books.
The Big Read starts on Friday 8 August and runs until 24 August.
