Brighton and Hove Greens select first round of local election candidates
The Brighton and Hove Green Party has picked more than a dozen candidates in its first round of selections for the local elections next year.
The selection results were published in the Brighton and Hove Independent newspaper today (Friday 15 August).
The free weekly newspaper said: “Like a horse and carriage, Green Party candidates in Regency ward appear to come in pairs.
“With Jason Kitcat and his wife, Ania, both standing down at the council elections next May, the party has chosen Alex Phillips, currently a Green councillor in neighbouring Goldsmid, as a replacement – along with Tom Druitt, her fiancé.
“The couple get married this weekend.”
Other candidates chosen in the first round of selections are
Brunswick and Adelaide – Councillor Phélim Mac Cafferty and Councillor Ollie Sykes
Central Hove – Ray Cunningham
Goldsmid – Councillor Ruth Buckley and Councillor Rob Jarrett
Hanover and Elm Grove – David Gibson and Councillor Liz Wakefield
Hollingdean and Stanmer – Rob Shepherd
Preston Park – Councillor Leo Littman
Queen’s Park – Councillor Stephanie Powell and Dick Page
Regency – Councillor Alex Phillips and Tom Druitt
St Peter’s and North Laine – Councillor Pete West and Councillor Lizzie Deane
Withdean – Councillor Sue Shanks and Dick Page
Mr Page has been selected in two wards so will have to decide in which he would like to stand.
The local elections for the 54 seats on Brighton and Hove City Council are due to take place on Thursday 7 May next year – the same day as the general election.
