X-Factor finalist turned ice dancer Ray Quinn popped to Brighton last week, to launch the brand new Holiday on Ice 70th anniversary show, Platinum. Running from Tuesday 6th to Sunday 11th January 2015 at The Brighton Centre only, Platinum is a tribute to 70 years of Holiday on Ice which has been appearing at the venue since 1978.

Taking the audience through the history of figure skating, the show will be accompanied by a mix of music from electro and waltz to swing, gospel and samba.

Ray commented: “I’m so thrilled to be a part of Holiday on Ice Platinum, it’s the 70th year celebration show, so it’s extra special! For me to be back on the ice is really exciting. The show is going to bring so much together from past, traditional shows to the more contemporary present day. I genuinely can’t wait!”

The first act, ‘That Was Then’, has a touch of nostalgia and includes incredible footage of world champion Olympic stars who have performed in previous shows. The second half, ‘This Is Now’, has a hip sound and the costumes look like they have come from the latest Paris catwalk, but the skating still takes centre stage. The show will end with a ‘light up’ Brazilian finale and extra features that maintain the show’s energy and celebratory feel.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 1st August and are available from www.brightoncentre.co.uk or by contacting the box office on 0844 847 1538

Doodle Along
If you fancy getting your creative juices flowing next Saturday, then you could do worse than booking onto one of the art workshops down at Ink_d gallery in the North Laine.

It’s a rare opportunity to witness some live doodling by the master of cartoon himself, Mr Jon Burgerman. Jon is based at his studio in New York, but by the power of the interweb, punters will be able to chat along and doodle along live. You can book your place by contacting the gallery. The price is £25 for the two hour session, plus a free drink!

Chas & Dave do Brighton
I nipped down to Concorde2 to see one of my all time favourite bands last Saturday – Chas and Dave! The cockney duo did not disappoint as they rolled out every single hit, bar ‘Snooker Loopy’…

If you can get yourself along to Concorde2 in the next couple of weeks, they have some limited tickets left for a couple of gigs I would recommend: on 23 August, Gilles Peterson brings his cool grooves to the South Coast, and if you can’t get on the train to Notting Hill on 25 August then zip along to the Alternative Notting Hill Carnival for an authentic experience, without moving too far on a bank holiday!
