Brighton man accused of ramming police cars during chase

A Brighton man accused of ramming police cars in a stolen car and attacking an officer has been remanded in custody until he faces a crown court judge.

Billy Aylott, 25, of Chesham Street, Kemp Town, faces seven charges, five of them relating to a chase last Thursday (14 August).

The chase started when police spotted a stolen Citroen C3.

Aylott is accused of stealing the car and driving it dangerously along the A264 in West Sussex before ramming police as they tried to stop him.

He assaulted PC Christopher Hossin in the execution of his duty and after his arrest he smashed a phone belonging to Sussex Police, according to the charge sheet.

He is also accused of burgling a house in Rye in June, stealing £3,000 in cash and jewellery, taking the keys to a Land Rover Freelander and driving off in it.

The final two charges allege that he drove without a licence or insurance along the A23 and A264 last week.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday (15 August) Aylott was told that he would be held in prison until Monday 8 September when he will appear at Lewes Crown Court.
