Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks brought a wash of American sunshine and beauty to a wet Bank Holiday Monday in Hove, turning what felt like a secret village hall gathering of the League of Indie Aficionados into the best LA beach sundowner of our lives. Highlights from the new album were probably ‘Lariat’ and ‘Surreal Teenagers’, though the whole discordant, poetic, symphonic effect was so extraordinary I was not the only one to shut my eyes and let the flow take me. Loose and wonderful, it was also huge fun: grown men with beards did the bumps. Catch them, wherever.
