Truly local television will broadcast from this evening.

Latest TV launches with a promise to bring the brightest and best of Brighton and Hove, Adur and Worthing, to TV screens.

It will feature news, views, sport, music, entertainment, property – and seagulls aplenty. Broadcast on Freeview Channel 8 and Virgin 159, plus online, Latest TV will be accessible to 400,000 people across the Greater Brighton area. Latest will operate a “You Make It, We Show It” policy, to make viewers the stars of the screen.

Bill Smith, founder of Latest TV, said: “We have been fighting for Brighton to have its own television station for years. It’s so exciting to see this dream become a reality.

“I believe that TV should be democratic. So as well as the Latest team producing top-class television we will be proud to show films and videos made by you.” The channel has already signed up some great local films and documentaries.

Broadcasting takes place in studios yards away from the seaside and Latest TV will be on air up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week with sport and news at the heart of the channel. Programming includes Brighton Lights, a nightly entertainment show presented by Juice 107.2’s presenter Guy Lloyd and 80-year-old Britain’s Got Talent comedienne Lynn Ruth Miller, and International Chef Exchange, when top chefs swap for a week with cooks from all over the world.
