Woodfest, a brand new music festival arrives in Brighton

Making its debut this year, and taking place in the beautiful inner-city park, St. Ann’s Well Gardens, Woodfest has been put together by the same people (Friends of St. Ann’s Well Gardens) who organise the yearly, and very popular, Spring Festival in May. The aim of the festival is to raise money for a tree board which will educate park users on the rare variety of tree species in the Gardens, and the board will be permanently situated in the park.

Woodfest will showcase a variety of wood related activities, crafts and forestry, so expect to see some wood sculpting, tablet weaving, ‘nerd wars’, archery, nature walks and talks, tree climbing, a forest school (organised by The Outdoors Project) which includes activities such as bow making, wood turning and basket weaving, plus other woodland arts and crafts, a children’s fancy dress parade of woodland and magical creatures (there’ll be a prize for the best dressed!), and of course various food, art, craft and local produce stalls.

Woodfest will also have a music stage throughout the day, in a beautiful Indian Marquee. Acts include the beautiful piano-based songs of Max Taylor, the highly touted indie rockers Beautiful Boy, young blues-rockers JOLTA, the afrobeat rhythms of Hot Border Special, the Pulp-esque Band Bang Romeo, the exquisite indie-folk harmonies of House of Hats, the incredible one man band that is Sam Walker (aka The Muel) and London based young folkstress Jess Hall.

The event is free, and hopefully the beginnings of an annual event. If you’d like to get involved as a volunteer or for more information, please contact: stannswell@outlook.com
