Brighton and Hove voted best British city for food and drink

The readers of Condé Nest Traveller magazine have voted Brighton and Hove the Best UK City for Restaurants and Bars – better even than London.

In the magazine’s annual travel awards, readers voted for the places they love to visit and stay in.

Brighton and Hove came top because of its variety of bars and choice of places to eat out.

It also nudged into the world’s top 100 which feature luxurious destinations across the globe.

At number 86 Brighton and Hove finished ahead of The Connaught and Dorchester in London and spa resorts in Italy and the Maldives.

Councillor Geoffrey Bowden, the chairman of the Brighton and Hove City Council Economic Development and Culture Committee, said: “This is yet another feather in city’s cap.

“It is a great accolade to be recognised by the readers of such a prestigious travel magazine and is a testament to the amazing variety and quality of Brighton and Hove’s bar and restaurant offer.”

Brighton and Hove’s award was presented to the city’s mayor, Councillor Brian Fitch. He said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to have pushed London into second place and it’s a real achievement for the bars and restaurants in the city, demonstrating their diversity and the excellence of their offer.

“I am delighted for them. No one should underestimate their value to our economy and the place they hold as one the key attractions of our city.”
