Club Highlights: 2 September 2014
Don’t miss our pick of Brighton after dark
Ultimate Power
A night dedicated to music from the age of the power ballad, when King Loaf and Queen Tyler presided over a fist-clenching, air-punching realm of demonstrative emoting and big hair.
Komedia, Fri 5 Sept, 11pm, £5/4
Pump Up The Jump
Hey kids, the ’90s are the new ’80s! These guys play everything from Blur and Baby D to Salt N Pepa and Soul II Soul. Not that you’re old enough to remember any of that stuff.
Coalition, Sat 6 Sept, 11pm, £6
Stay Beautiful
A sleazy, punky, trashy brew. Take a snippet of first wave punk and some early electro. Add in some riot grrl with a touch of Britpop and throw in a few angsty alt rock numbers. Liberally sprinkle glitter.
Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Sat 6 Sept, 11pm, £5/4
Laurent Garnier
An epic three hour set from the French DJing legend. Support comes from Suze Rosser and Fono, but the main draw is Garnier’s distinctive mix of techno, jazz, electronica and dub. A real party maker since the ’80s.
Concorde 2, Sat 6 Sept, 11pm, £17.50
