Snap Shots: Kate Daisy Grant
Photographer Diana Frangi captures the faces and places that define our city. This week: Kate Daisy Grant’s new album ‘Portrait’
My new album, called ‘Portrait’, is a snapshot of how I feel about many situations and events, in both my life and other people’s, that have meant something to me. It’s mainly an emotional-political statement about the rise of people’s voices against inequality, environmental destruction and corruption, and the huge clamp down on those voices by our various governments. It’s about freedom, and the lack of it.
In what promises to be one of the most enjoyable musical events of the summer, Brighton-based composer-singer Kate Daisy Grant will be officially launching her new album, ‘Portrait’, at The Old Market on 5 September.
With her will be multi-instrumentalist virtuoso Nick Pynn, who will also be previewing new songs from his upcoming album ‘Waterproof’. They will be joined by special guest John Watts from Fischer-Z. Kate and Nick, performing together, won ‘Best Music Act’ at the Brighton ‘Latest’ Fringe and Festival Awards 2013.
Kate’s album will be released on iTunes and through Bandcamp (CDs/ downloads) on 8 September. At the Old Market gig, she will be performing tracks from the album; a range of enchanting toy-folk-pop original songs featuring self-made and traditional instruments. It promises to be an evening of music magic.
