Patients give Brighton hospital trust a mixed report

Patients have given a Brighton hospital trust a mixed assessment after checking places such as the Royal Sussex County Hospital for cleanliness, privacy and food and hydration.

Chief nurse Sherree Fagge said in a newsletter: “The latest Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) were published this week and have shown that we have mixed results.

“The assessments involve patient representatives coming into our hospitals to look at

  • cleanliness
  • food and hydration
  • privacy, dignity and well-being
  • condition, maintenance and appearance of the environment

“As a trust we performed better than the national average for food and hydration, with a score of 96.98 per cent compared to the national average of 88.8 per cent and were just short of the national average for cleanliness, with a score of 96.8 per cent compared to an average of 97.3 per cent.

“We didn’t perform so well with privacy, dignity and well-being (84.6 per cent) and condition, maintenance and appearance of the environment (86.16 per cent).

“Our aim is to always give patients the best possible experience while they are in our care so we will be using this feedback to address the issues raised and to make improvements where necessary.”
