Would-be robber breaks Brighton woman’s shoulder

A Brighton woman suffered a broken shoulder in an attempted mugging in Hollingdean Park last Friday (29 August), Sussex Police said today (Thursday 4 September).

And detectives have asked for help to identify a suspect captured in a CCTV image which they also published today.

The force said: “A 28-year-old woman was walking home from work on Friday at around 4pm when a man ran up behind her and tried to grab her handbag.

“She held on to it but the man pushed her over and she fell and suffered a fracture to her shoulder.

CCTV Hollingdean Park robbery suspect 20140829“The victim was walking across Hollingdean Park when she heard a man coming up behind her and she moved over to let him pass but he grabbed her bag.”

Detective constable Emma Vickers said: “The suspect is described as around 17, around 5ft 4in and skinny and was wearing a brown hooded top and dark denim jeans.

“This CCTV image shows a man in the area at the time who matches the description and was seen again running from the area after the attempted robbery.

“Nothing was taken but the victim has been left with a hairline fracture to her shoulder and is very shaken. If you recognise him or saw anything in the area please contact police.”
