Arsonist suspected of starting two fires in The Lanes in Brighton early this morning

An arsonist is suspected of starting two fires in The Lanes in Brighton in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 7 September).

The first fire was started in Duke Street shortly before 3am when someone set light to cardboard boxes left out for the rubbish collection.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Preston Circus to tackle the blaze which they were able to prevent from spreading to neighbouring properties.

About half an hour later the Preston Circus crew had to tackle a fire in a bug bin near by in Ship Street.

An investigation into the cause of the two fires has started, with support from Sussex Police.
