Health Minister visits Brighton hospital where he worked as a doctor

Health Minister Dan Poulter visited the Brighton hospital where he used to work today (Thursday 11 September).

Dr Poulter returned to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where, five years ago, he was a registrar. He specialised in obstetrics, gynaecology and women’s health.

A year later, in May 2010, he became a Conservative MP at the general election.

Dr Poulter, who came on a ministerial visit to the Royal Sussex last year, also visited the Sussex Beacon today.

He said: “I was delighted to visit the Royal Sussex County Hospital today where I used to work.”

He paid tribute to his fellow Conservative MP Simon Kirby, who represents Brighton Kemptown, for his efforts to persuade the government to invest £420 million in the modernisation of the Royal Sussex.

Dr Poulter said that the money would “create the modern 21st century hospital Brighton and the surrounding area deserves”.

Mr Kirby said: “I was very pleased that Dan visited Brighton today and was able to see all the excellent work that goes on here at the Sussex County and at the Sussex Beacon.

“Thanks to the £420 million that will be invested in the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the government is showing its commitment to the local NHS.

“The Sussex Beacon’s work is without compare and I was delighted the minister found time to visit there as well.”
