STRIKE THREAT
Thousands of public sector workers are threatening to walk out over pay.

Unions claim the action on October 14 is needed as the governments 1% pay rise offer is insufficient.

With disruption expected across the city, Latest TV’s Jody Doherty-Cove spoke to some of those involved.

BIN HERE BEFORE
The worker’s dissatisfaction rumbles on – this time with the city’s bin workers.

Cityclean workers have long been in dispute with Brighton and Hove City Council over the rejig to pay and allowances.

The local authority had thought they struck a deal earlier this year. But waste crews are still not happy and announced they would be carrying out industrial action, including a full strike yesterday (September 15).

At the time of going to print it was not clear if this went ahead as planned.

CITY PLAN
It may sound dry, but the City Plan will dictate where people live, work and play in Brighton and Hove for years to come.

The planning blueprint was first discussed more than two years ago.

And, politicians are still not in agreement about what should be in the final version.

Currently the council has found room for about 13,000 homes – with targets going up, that’s nearly 10,000 fewer than the expected demand required by 2030.

The government inspector has already sent it back once – how long before Whitehall officials take the responsibility to guide development into their own hands?

Expect plenty more on this in the coming weeks.

TOUR OF BRITAIN
The Tour of Britain rolled into Sussex this weekend, and the Latest TV cameras were there to catch the best of the action.

Organisers of the event said it was the most spectated event in the country, adding it brought £3million into the local economy.

With Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish leading the charge, there was certainly plenty to keep the partisan fans happy.

Leg seven of the race came to a climax in Madeira Drive on Saturday afternoon before finishing in London the following day.

HOW IT SHOULD BE
A bunch of Brighton entrepreneurs have clubbed together to take on the supermarket big boys.

hisbe

Hisbe, off London Road, stands for How It Should Be.

Nine months after opening, Latest TV’s Jody Doherty-Cove popped down to find out how things are going and ask if the store has what it takes to take on the big four.

GRAND ANNIVERSARY
This month sees the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the Grand Hotel.

Bombing

A lot has changed since that dark day in 1984 – especially for the hotel itself.

And while the milestone will not be heralded, there will be a small vigil established at the seafront establishment.

Latest TV caught up with Andrew Mosley, the Grand’s current general manager, to talk about how the bombing still affects goings-on at the hotel even now.

DRAGON’S DEN
Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis came to Brighton’s Churchill Square shopping centre to open up a new venture.

The entrepreneur said that Boux Avenue will offer the very best in lingerie.

Latest TV caught up with the dragon to ask him about the new shop – and whether or not he would be moving to Brighton any time soon.

The answer? You’ll have to tune in to Latest TV to find out…

DOG’S DINNER
Pups across the city are licking their lips with the launch of the country’s first ever dog café.

The venture in Brighton Square certainly offers enough tasty treats fit for a King Spaniel.

We caught up with the Caeser of this empire, Joel Ariaman, who certainly believes it has legs.
