Saltdean residents urged to comment on school expansion plans
People living in Saltdean are being urged to comment on plans to expand the local primary school.
Brighton and Hove City Council is consulting on plans to expand Saltdean Primary School from September next year.
The school is looking to take an extra class each year with 90 children starting in Reception each year instead of the current number of 60 children.
As a result the school will end up with about 650 pupils rather than the current 436.
The consultation started on Monday 1 September and closes on Monday 29 September.
Information about the proposals can be found here.
Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby, whose constituency includes Saltdean, today encouraged people in Saltdean to take part in the consultation.
He said: “I would encourage all residents to take part in the consultation so that their voices are heard.
“It is important to make their opinion known to the city council who will be deciding on this matter.
“Many parents contact me regarding school places at both primary and secondary level so I am aware that this is a really important issue for families.
“I am also aware of issues surrounding traffic and parking in the area immediately around the school, particularly at school opening and closing times.”
