The Fall
For almost 40 years Mark E Smith’s sheer bloody mindedness has made The Fall one of the most revered bands borne of the punk era. Many members have fallen by the wayside but tonight’s line up is the longest lasting ever and this familiarity came through in tonight’s captivating show. The driving drums, thumping bass and jagged guitar propelled each song as Smith’s unique deranged preacher delivery mesmerised the devoted crowd. White Lightning’s lyrics may have been as incomprehensible as the rest of the set’s vocals but this was pure, raw rock ‘n’ roll. A vital and extraordinary performance.
