Fire chiefs issue safety plea after fire in Brighton flats
Fire chiefs urged people to take more care in the kitchen after a fire at a high-rise block of flats in Brighton last night (Thursday 2 October).
Five fire engines were sent to Swanborough Place, in Whitehawk, at about 8pm yesterday evening.
When they arrived the fire had already been put out so no action by crews was needed, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.
The fire service added: “More than half of accidental fires at home are started by cooking and it can easily happen.
“Many kitchen fires happen when people are not paying attention or they leave things unattended.
“Find out how to keep safe while you are cooking and what to do if a fire starts in your kitchen.”
