Peacehaven drink driver banned and landed with £2.4k bill

A drink driver from Peacehaven has been landed with a bill totalling £2,460 after he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

Martin Hunter, 35, of Cairo Avenue, Peacehaven, admitted being almost three times over the limit and failing to stop after an accident.

He then refused a breath test, resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer.

Hunter was driving a BMW when he crashed into another vehicle in the car park of the Telscombe Tavern, in South Coast Road, Telsombe Cliffs.

He pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and was fined £600 and ordered to pay £200 prosecution costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

He also pleaded guilty to drink driving along South Coast Road. Hunter had 101 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – almost three times the limit of 35 micrograms.

He was fined £600 and banned from driving for 17 months. If he attends an approved course, costing up to £250, his ban will be reduced by 17 weeks.

He admitted refusing to take a breath test when first asked and was fined £400.

He pleaded guilty to attacking PC James Bunkin and was fined £400 with a £200 fine for resisting arrest, which he also admitted.
