Portslade parents plead for safe play area

Parents in Portslade are urging the council to give a play area a makeover and to make it accessible for disabled children.

About 1,400 people have signed a petition being presented to the council when it meets at Hove Town Hall on Thursday (23 October).

The petition says: “We the undersigned are concerned about the suitability and lack of appropriate and safe play equipment in the Mile Oak Recreation Ground play area for both young children and teenagers.

“Also, that there is no provision for those with disabilities, disabled access or wheelchair use.

“Therefore, we are asking Brighton and Hove City Council to improve the facilities and play equipment provision in the Mile Oak Recreation Ground play area to make it comparable with the other parks in the city that also received play builder funding.”

The lead petitioner is Tiffany Soanes and the issue has previously been raised by North Portslade ward councillor Penny Gilbey.

Under council rules, the petition will trigger a debate because it has attracted more than 1,250 signatories.
