Tom Stade: Decisions Decisions

For his latest show, Canadian forty-something Tom Stade invited a crowd into his very own mid-life crisis of sorts. Eternally irresponsible despite the responsibilities of settling down, Stade’s schtick involved what felt like a drunk jock boasting of the small triumphs of everyday mediocrity, from his Boots card membership through to a bulk order of Costco cheese. At times hilarious, Stade’s existential pondering of the decisions we make and where they lead us was never less than polished. Though peppered with the odd spot of not-sure-if-this-is-really-ironic sexism, for the most part, this was a slick meditation on growing old without dignity.
